Cancer du pancréas : ces 2 symptômes auraient dû mettre la puce à l’oreille de mon papa, qui a été emporté en 12 semaines seulement

Pancreatic cancer is a devastating disease that often progresses rapidly, catching both patients and their loved ones by surprise. In this article, we will explore two key symptoms that should have raised red flags for my father, who tragically passed away from pancreatic cancer in just 12 weeks.

Recognizing the Signs

As a general practitioner, I have seen firsthand the importance of early detection and intervention when it comes to pancreatic cancer. This aggressive form of cancer often presents vague and nonspecific symptoms in its early stages, making it challenging to diagnose.

Symptom 1: Unexplained Weight Loss

One of the first signs that something was wrong with my father was his unexplained weight loss. He had always been a healthy and active man, so when he started shedding pounds without trying, it was a cause for concern. Unintentional weight loss is a common symptom of pancreatic cancer, as the tumor can interfere with the body’s ability to digest food properly.

Symptom 2: Jaundice

Another symptom that should have alerted us to the presence of pancreatic cancer was my father’s jaundice. His skin and the whites of his eyes started to take on a yellowish hue, indicating a problem with his liver or bile duct. Jaundice is often a sign of a blocked bile duct, which can occur when a pancreatic tumor grows and obstructs the flow of bile.

The Importance of Early Detection

Pancreatic cancer is notoriously difficult to treat, especially in its later stages. That’s why it is crucial to recognize the signs and symptoms early on and seek medical attention promptly. While my father’s cancer had already advanced by the time it was diagnosed, I hope that by sharing his story, others may be more vigilant about their health and advocate for themselves if they experience similar symptoms.
